How to rank your med spa on Google, the local SEO playbook

Most new patients find you on Google — in the map pack and the search results. Here's how to actually rank, what you can do yourself for free, and where an agency genuinely pays off.

  1. 1

Claim and perfect your Google Business Profile

Your single biggest lever for the map pack — and it's free.

The “map pack” — the three businesses shown on the map — is where most local patients click. Your Google Business Profile(GBP) is what ranks there, and a complete, active profile beats a neglected one almost every time. This is the highest-return hour you'll spend, and you can do it yourself.

    Key moves

    • Claim and verify your profile, then fill in every field
    • Set the right primary category (“Medical spa”) plus secondary ones for your treatments
    • Add real photos regularly and post weekly offers or updates
    • List your services and answer the Q&A section yourself
  2. 2

Make reviews a system, not an afterthought

Recent, genuine reviews lift both your ranking and your bookings.

Review count, rating and recencyare major local-ranking signals — and they're the social proof that turns a searcher into a booking. The clinics that win make asking for a review part of every visit. If you'd rather hand this off, see reputation & review agencies.

    Key moves

    • Ask every happy patient at checkout — a quick link or QR code makes it effortless
    • Respond to every review, good and bad, promptly and on-brand
    • Never buy or incentivize reviews — it's against the rules and it backfires
  3. 3

Build pages for your services and your area

Give Google a specific page for each thing you want to rank for.

A single “services” page can't rank for everything. Dedicated pages — one per key treatment, plus a strong location or area page — give Google something specific to rank and give patients a relevant place to land.

    Key moves

    • A page per high-value treatment (Botox, fillers, laser, body contouring…)
    • A clear location/area page naming your city and neighborhoods
    • Real, specific content — never thin, templated copy
  4. 4

Win the organic results, not just the map

Below the map pack is a whole page of searches you can own.

Organic SEO compounds: helpful content and treatment pages keep pulling in “near me” and question searches month after month, at no per-click cost. It's slower than ads, but it's the cheapest traffic you'll ever get — and the work is what SEO agencies for med spas specialize in.

    Key moves

    • Answer the questions patients actually ask: cost, downtime, results, safety
    • Keep medical/aesthetic content accurate and compliant
    • Earn links from local press, partners and suppliers
  5. 5

    Get the technical basics right

A slow, clunky site quietly caps everything above it.

Google won't rank — and patients won't book on — a site that's slow, awkward on a phone, or hard to crawl. You don't need to be technical, but these fundamentals have to be in place for the rest to pay off.

    Key moves

    • Fast load times and a genuinely mobile-first design
    • Obvious, easy booking on every page
    • LocalBusiness schema and a clean, crawlable structure
  6. 6

Be consistent everywhere (NAP + citations)

Your name, address and phone must match across the web.

Google cross-checks your business details across directories. Inconsistent name, address and phone (NAP) — an old suite number here, a different phone there — erodes trust and your ranking.

    Key moves

    • Use the exact same NAP everywhere it appears
    • Claim the big directories (Yelp, Apple, Bing, Healthgrades…)
    • Fix or remove old and duplicate listings
  7. 7

    Then decide: DIY or hire

Do the basics yourself; hire out what moves the needle and eats your time.

Steps 1 and 2 — your GBP and a review habit — you can and should do yourself this week; they're free and high-impact. The deeper work (content, technical SEO, link-building, ongoing local SEO) is where a good agency earns its fee. When you're ready, compare local SEO agencies — honest profiles, not the agency that ranked itself #1.

    Key moves

    • DIY your Google Business Profile and a review-request habit this week
    • When you scale, compare vetted agencies in the directory — by service, rating and price
